Combining different types of microscopy techniques within the confines of a typical endoscopic tool is quite difficult because each type of imaging requires different optical settings. In this study, we explored the use of 3D nanoprinting with two-photon polymerisation to create complete optical MEMS devices in a single step, which could facilitate multimodal endoscopy. This method allows us to make really tiny, precise and flexible micro-optics and actuators. This work, specifically focused on designing, building and testing a 3D nano-printed bistable microlens actuator. This actuator can switch between two stable positions, changing the focus distance and numerical aperture. It has two coils with opposing currents that create a magnetic field around a polymer micromagnet, which helps it to switch positions reliably.
